Join us as we make history, bringing adult plays back to the historic stage of The Texas Theater in Waxahachie

All across Texas old movie theaters still remain, but many are locked in the past, unrestored, dark, forgotten.

Most are gone.

In Fort Worth, for instance, gone are Tower, Parkway, New Isis, Bowie, 7th Street, Grand, Poly, Varsity and Tivoli.

Sadly, the New Isis, recently restored at the Fort Worth Stockyards, has shut after its owners went broke trying to pull it off. It cost millions.

My favorite is the Hollywood, which is dark, forgotten but still there. And it’s not too many yards away from the original Star-Telegram building. I kept fantasizing that my hit comedy play about “Mr. Fort Worth” – AMON! The Ultimate Texan – would find a permanent home there after a multi-million-dollar rehab. That’s not happening. We don’t have a home theater in Fort Worth, but, fortunately, we’re able to visit revived theaters around the state.

Until now, our favorite has been the landmark Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene.

The good news is we get to make local history this weekend when the award-winning AMON! becomes the first adult play to hit the stage at The Texas Theater in Waxahachie since it was lovingly restored.

Waxahachie becomes the seventh Texas city to host our hit comedy in more than 50 performances.

Amon Carter owned the newspaper (Star-Telegram), the radio station (WBAP) and the TV station (Channel 5). What power he had! (And how he hated Dallas!)

We have four shows: Jan. 19 and 20, and Feb. 23 and 24. Learn more at AmonPlay.com.

The revived Waxahachie theater was built in 1895. It’s two stories with modern amenities – plush seats, a bar, an upscale lounge and premium audiovisual technology.

Owners Jon and Alyssa Garrett of Waxahachie put their hearts and souls into the 2022 rehab. My friend Tim Eaton manages the theater and everything that goes with it.

According to the theater’s written history, “The gilded detailing, high-end furnishings and red and bronze accents throughout give the space a sense of grandeur and an opulent old Hollywood feel that makes for a momentous night out.”

Join us as we make history, bringing adult plays back to the historic stage of The Texas Theater in Waxahachie. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this revival and witness the award-winning AMON! live on stage.

Seats are now on sale for shows: Jan. 19, 20 and Feb. 23, 24. For tickets and more - AmonPlay.com.
